Updates From The School Health Office - 10/23/20

The CDC released an updated definition of a close contact.******

Please see the revised Mandatory Daily Screening Checklist below:

Prior to leaving for school each morning, all staff and caregivers of students must complete the following checklist.  If you answer YES to any of these statements, please do not come to school and contact the school nurse for guidance.

Symptoms:

  • Temperature 100.0 degrees fahrenheit or higher
  • New onset of cough, shortness of breath (if chronic allergic/asthmatic cough - a change from baseline)
  • Sore throat 
  • Headache (with other symptoms) 
  • Fatigue (with other symptoms)
  • Body or muscle aches 
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Nasal congestion or runny nose (with other symptoms)
  • New onset of loss of taste or smell

Close Contact****

A household member to anyone with a known diagnosis of COVID-19 in the past 14 days or someone within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 min or more over a 24 hr period.

Travel

Please do not come to school if you are ill, are considered a close contact, have taken medication to lower fever in the past 12 hours, and/or have recently travelled outside of the lower risk states: https://www.mass.gov/info-details/covid-19-travel-order#lower-risk-states-.

To get tested for COVID-19, contact your primary care physician or refer to https://www.mass.gov/covid-19-testing  to find a test site. Please contact the school nurse if you need to update your child’s emergency contacts, or if you have any questions.

Should a student or staff member need to remain home if a household member has had a known exposure/been identified as a close contact to a COVID positive individual and is waiting for their test result?

Yes, the student or staff member should remain at home and not attend school (may attend remotely if possible) until the test result is known. It is best practice for the household member who is getting tested to have limited to no contact with other members of the family until they receive their test results.

FLU CLINIC : 

The flu vaccine is required by the state for all students by December 31, 2020, regardless of which learning plan they are participating in. For a full list of Flu Clinics please visit:http://www.nashoba.org/news-events/71-2020-flu-schedule

On this webpage are the links for the flu VIS form and insurance sheet. Print out and complete the insurance form and bring it to the clinic. If possible bring a copy of your health insurance card also.  Please submit proof of this to the school nurse - a big thank you to those who have turned these in. Should you need a medical or religious exemption form, please reach out to the school nurse.

The Beacon Santa and Holiday Helpers assistance programs have begun. Applications have been mailed to qualifying families. If you do not receive them by Tues. 10/20, or you have any questions, please call the school nurse.

BEACON SANTA: The application plus a letter explaining the reasons for the family’s need must be completed. The application and letter must be mailed or emailed TO BEACON SANTA BY OCT. 30. They will not accept late applications!!! Start writing your letter now!!
