In accordance with Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 71B, Section 2, 603 CMR 28.00, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Littleton Public Schools is responsible for identifying, locating, and evaluating all children residing in Littleton, MA who may have disabilities and may be in need of special education and related services.
This process, known as Child Find, applies to:
- Children ages 3–21 who reside in Littleton
- Preschool-aged children (ages 3–5)
- Students attending private schools located within Littleton
- Children who are homeschooled
- Highly mobile, migrant, or homeless children
- Children in foster care
- Students advancing from grade to grade who may still require evaluation
- Children suspected of having a disability, even if they are progressing in general education
A child may be eligible for special education if they have a disability in one or more of the following areas:
- Autism
- Developmental Delay (ages 3–9)
- Intellectual Disability
- Sensory Impairments (Hearing or Vision)
- Neurological Impairment
- Emotional Impairment
- Specific Learning Disability
- Communication Impairment
- Physical Impairment
- Health Impairment

Referrals may be made by parents/guardians, physicians, early childhood providers, or other concerned individuals.
All referrals are handled in a confidential manner. Upon receipt of a referral, the district will follow all required timelines and procedural safeguards under state and federal law.
