LPS Celebrates the 4th Annual District STEM Challenge | Can Do Island

What an incredible conclusion to our 4th annual LPS District STEM Challenge! This year, students from Pre-Kindergarten all the way through high school embraced the spirit of innovation by tackling a month-long challenge inspired by the inspiring story of Caine's Arcade. Our aspiring engineers were tasked with designing and building their very own cardboard arcade games, applying the principles of the Engineering Design Process.

It was truly a collaborative effort! Students from PK to 8th grade dove into the challenge, while our dedicated team of high school mentors provided invaluable support. These mentors posted helpful demonstrations and offered constructive feedback to their younger peers, fostering a fantastic learning environment. Each grade level navigated unique parameters and constraints, leading to a wonderful display of creativity and problem-solving.

This project is designed to ...

  • help all our students see themselves in STEM in a way that connects them to a larger community
  • promote student agency and feelings of confidence with being creative problem solvers and solution finders
  • unite our Littleton students with a common goal  across schools with built in variability based on interest, skills and abilities
  • provide leadership opportunities for our LHS students in the mentor role
