Greetings Littleton Community,
The first day of school is finally upon us. When I returned to Littleton on July 1st to take on the role of superintendent, I did so with gratitude, joy, and tremendous excitement. After having the opportunity to welcome back our faculty and staff today, these feelings have grown exponentially.
I mentioned to my wife, Kristen, that tomorrow marks my 44th consecutive first day of school. From my time as a kindergartner in the early 80s to now, I cannot remember a year when I didn't feel butterflies in my stomach while lying in bed the night before the first day of school. This year, my emotions regarding the start of the new school year are a complex mix.
Not only am I achieving my career goal of serving as superintendent, but I am also coming 'home' to the district where I experienced my very first day of school as a teacher. I am humbled and grateful for this opportunity.
Like many of you, I am also experiencing the first day of school as a parent. This year is particularly significant for our family: our daughter Caroline begins her senior year of high school, while our daughter Anna starts her freshman year. The thought of new beginnings for one child, while the other experiences her final year, brings a flurry of emotions.
On Saturday, while touring our buildings to ensure everything is ready, I had the pleasure of meeting some of our incoming kindergarten parents. What an exciting time this is for all of you! I am excited to meet all of our students, especially our newest learners. The thought that we are all starting together is very special to me. Looking ahead, it will give me great joy to watch these kindergarten students grow into the graduates who will walk across the stage in 2039.
Please know that I consider it an honor and a privilege to serve as the leader of our school district. My mission is to lead with joy, passion, empathy, and love for our students, while simultaneously providing a rigorous, academically challenging environment that serves all learners. I am eager to embark on this journey and build upon the progress our staff has achieved. While honoring our past successes, I am also excited to explore innovative ways to engage our students and foster positive connections within our district and community.
I wish your students a fantastic school year filled with joy, memorable moments, and learning that challenges them each day. Thank you for the opportunity to serve this community. I assure you that I will lead our school district with passion, commitment, and love every day.
Sincerely,
Mike
