Summer reading list for students entering the 8th grade

Each student must read:

The Outsiders by SE Hinton.  Mr. Levine has copies that the students may check out.

Each student must also read one of the following:

A Day in the life of Ivan Denisovitch by Alexander Solzhenitzyn
1776 by David McCullough.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by JK Rowling
Reversing the Curse by Dan Shaughnessy,
Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer
A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson
Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King
Rats by Robert Sullivan
Rebel by Bernard Cornwell

… and one other book of your choosing recommended by a librarian at the Reuben Hoar Library.  You must ask the librarians at the Reuben Hoar Library to recommend a book.  They’ve got some great suggestions.

Students entering the eighth grade will begin their academic year with an examination of The Outsiders.  Students will complete a project related to their other summer reading selections in the fall.  Projects may include, but are not limited to:  artistic representations, classroom presentations, dramatic readings or performances of the work chosen.
