Welcome To Russell Street School |
|
Dear Parents and Students,
On behalf of the entire Russell Street Elementary School faculty and staff I would like to welcome you to the 2009/2010 school year. As you know, Russell Street will be undergoing a major renovation which began this past summer and will continue for approximately eighteen months. To make the renovation possible, our current fifth grade has been moved to the Middle School for this one year only. Third and fourth grade will remain at Russell Street during the renovation. In spite of the challenges of the renovation, I want to assure you that our school mission to inspire and sustain learning and achievement, preparing each student for the challenges of life in the 21st century will continue to be supported throughout the school year. We will also continue to offer a continuum of programs and academic enrichment to ensure that we meet the learning needs of all of our students.
Our students will be instructed in the common core of fundamental skills in all subject areas, guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and the district wide curriculum guides that have been aligned with the state standards. With the dedication and expertise of the staff and your support and encouragement at home and in classroom, I am confident that your children will develop the competencies and skills needed for continued success in school.
Current research suggests that there is a strong correlation between high student achievement and families that take an active role in their children’s learning. As the principal of the Russell Street School, I want to assure you that we at Russell Street are committed to fostering an environment in which everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate in their children’s learning. I encourage you to become involved at Russell Street during the school year through the PTA or perhaps volunteering in the classroom or, as a tutor, if your schedule allows. The PTA and the Russell Street School Council provide an important voice in the planning and implementation of academic and enrichment initiatives at our school. Everyone is encouraged to participate.
Welcome to you all and best wishes for a wonderful school year.

Pick Up and Drop Off Procedures |
|
A.M. Drop Off Procedure
Do not enter the circle when busses are unloadingLine up on the right side of the driveway as you enter the driveway for RSS. When all busses have dropped off students, a teacher will wave cars into the circle to drop off students at the front door (around 7:55)Never allow students to cross any of the driveways alone. It is dangerous and we have had accidents in the pastDo not park along the building to drop off students. It is too congested and it creates a dangerous situation for busses and cars when cars are backing up into the path of other cars and bussesIf you must drop off before 7:55 a.m. you may drop off a little earlier (7:45 a.m. and pull into the circle before the busses have arrived. Students may wait in the lobby before going up to their classrooms at 7:50 a.m. P.M. Pickup Procedure Cars will line up on the right side of the driveway as you enter for the RSSWhen all busses have left the circle, cars will be waved into the circle for student pickupPlease pull up beyond the front door so that we can get students into cars as safely and quickly as possible. Everyone must follow these procedures to make it safer for students and drivers at the RSS Thank you in advance for your cooperation |
|
The late bus will begin on Monday, October 6 and will be available on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Students will leave RSS at 3:05 P.M. and be brought to Shaker Lane where they will ride their assigned bus home from there. |
