Curriculum Information

Fifth Grade Curriculum Focus Bull's-Eyes

Students will:
•
Recognize and use decimals to the hundredths place
• Solve problems with fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals using the four operations
• Show understanding of the inverse relationship of multiplication and division, addition and
  subtraction, in solving word problems, and in computation
• Master and be fluent in basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts
• Multiply three digit multiplicand by two digit multiplier, using whole numbers and decimals
• Divide whole numbers and decimals with a single-digit divisor
• Simplify fractions to lowest terms
• Gather data, make predictions, and draw conclusions
• Define polygons based on number of sides
• Classify and manipulate polygons
• Recognize and label three dimensional shapes: cubes, prisms, spheres, cones, and pyramids
• Find the perimeter of rectangles, triangles, and parallelograms
• Measure and construct isosceles, equilateral, and right triangles
• Solve problems using system unit conversions of time, distance, weight, and volume
• Find the area of a rectangle given the base and height
• Define and identify radius, diameter, and circumference of a circle

 

 

Fourth Grade Curriculum Focus Bull's-Eyes

Students will:
• Read and write numbers to 1,000,000
• Write unit wholes as denominators and parts of wholes or sets as numerators
• Apply the concept that any number over itself in a fraction is equivalent to one whole
• Read, write, and name decimals in the tenths and hundredths
• Utilize appropriate vocabulary associated with each type of computation (quotient, multiple,
  factor, product, addend, sum, difference)
• Select appropriate operation and data to complete story problems
• Know multiplication facts up to 12
• Add and subtract up to 5 digits
• Multiply up to 1 digit times 3 digits, and divide up to 3 digits by a single digit divisor
• Determine place value and round to the nearest 100 and 1000
• Decide when to estimate and when an exact answer is required
• Use a map scale to estimate distance
• Identify and draw a picture or object with one or more lines of symmetry
• Demonstrate understanding of 3D figures
• Recognize the attributes of equilateral triangles, squares, rhombuses, and parallelograms
• Develop a definition of polygons
• Plot and name ordered pairs
• Measure to the nearest ½ and Ό inch or centimeter
• Create line graphs, pictographs, bar graphs, and line plots and use to analyze data
• Explain greater or lesser probability of events

 

Third Grade Curriculum Focus Bull's-Eyes

Students will:
• Read, write, model with manipulatives, and interpret whole numbers to 10,000
• Demonstrate an understanding of fractions as parts of unit wholes
• Identify, describe and model equivalent fractions using manipulatives
• Use manipulatives and models to add and subtract common fractions with denominators
• Compare and order fractions with like denominators up to eights
• Use base-10 blocks to demonstrate understanding of one and two place decimals
• Connect decimals to everyday use of tenths and hundredths in dollar and cents notation
• Using manipulatives demonstrate an understanding of division as equal sharing and grouping
  and multiplication as adding like groups
• Utilize multiplication facts to solve division equations and word problems
• Explore number patterns in the multiplication/division facts table
• Write equations which demonstrate the commutative and associative properties
• Know multiplication facts up to 10 and related division facts
• Use multiplication algorithms to solve problems up to two digits by one digit
• Demonstrate ability to divide two digits by one digit without remainders
• Apply the traditional algorithms for multi-digit addition and subtraction up to 4 digits
• Round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100
• Interpret mathematical relationships in pictures
• Identify cylinders, cones, spheres, quadrangles, and polygons
• Identify, describe, and draw an object with at least one line of symmetry
• Convert feet to yards, yards to inches, and feet to inches
