Littleton Middle School adheres to the mission statement of the Littleton Public School district which is to inspire and sustain learning and achievements, prepare each student for the challenges of life in the 21st century. The Mission statement of the Littleton Middle School is to promote the maximum intellectual, emotional, and social growth of students in grades 6, 7, and 8. These are the transitional years between elementary and high school. We work to provide our students with the opportunities and resources to become lifelong learners and productive, responsible citizens in an emerging global society. The middle school creates an environment that promotes respect for, and appreciation of, cultural diversity and the uniqueness of the individual. Our educationally challenging atmosphere is intended to prepare students for the rigors of high school while addressing their developmental needs. As learning experiences extend beyond the school, we are committed to creating positive interactions among the students, teachers, parents, and the community as a whole.

NELMS Recognition given to LMS |
Littleton Middle School NELMS Recognition.
Littleton Middle School was recently selected by the New England League of Middle Schools as a Spotlight School. This is a prestigious honor as it recognizes our school for following middle level educational best practices. Our application which was one of many that NELMS processes each year, moved quickly from level to level. The final step involved a site visit conducted by a team of experts. They toured the building, met with administrators, teacher teams and students. They had lunch in the cafeteria and sat in on some classes.
We were being judged in a number of categories such as; classroom instruction, strength of curriculum, course offerings, hands-on activities, school climate and culture, clubs and extra curricular activities. The visiting team was extremely impressed with our school. The Spotlight Award is for three years. The NELMS organization will be presenting a banner to LMS as well as recognition in the area media. Other middle schools will then have opportunities to visit LMS and speak with students and staff about what makes this such a special place!

MCC Archaeology & Art Museum |
|
Welcome to the MCC Archaeology & Art Museum! Littleton Middle School is the proud beneficiary of a Massachusetts Cultural Council grant: “Art, Archaeology and the Ancient World” Kimberley Connors-Hughes, a MCC Creative Teaching Partner and bona fide archaeologist, is challenging grade 7 students to view ancient art through the lens of archaeology. Together we use archaeological data as primary source evidence for art mediums and the place of art in human culture. Students work with Ms Connors in Mr. Giabbai’s Ancient History class and Ms. Caouette’s Art class. The highlight of the program is the hands-on student projects. All projects are documented using digital photography. Each class selects two works to represent their class in this on-line art museum. Ancient Temple Drawings This project is based on the students understanding of ancient temples and archaeological drawings; each student drew either a Bird’s Eye or Elevation view of their interpretation of an ancient temple.

Dear Parents/Guardians: Dress Code Reminder
As the warm weather approaches please take a moment to review with your child the appropriate clothing to wear in a school setting. Our dress code states that students are not allowed to wear “clothing that causes disruption or disorder on school grounds.” Clothing that falls into this category includes, tank tops with spaghetti straps, midriff baring tops, tube tops and exposed undergarments. Further examples include clothing hat advertises or depicts illegal activities such as drug, tobacco and alcohol use. Hats and bandannas are not to be worn inside the school building. Please refer to our student handbook (pg. 8) for the section on dress code. As a guide, shorts and skirts should be at least the length of your child’s index finger when the hand is placed by your child’s side. In addition, per order of the board of health, appropriate footwear must be worn in the school building at all times. School administrators may require a student to change if They are wearing clothing or footwear that may be seen as a distraction to the educational process. Parental support in regard to this matter would be greatly appreciated. |

LMS and LHS Find Success at Regional Botball Tournament |
|
The inhabitants of Robopolis are concerned about their increasing dependence on fossil fuels. It is up to Botguy to help the citizens replace fossil fuel-dependence with clean energy! This was the challenge given to fifteen regional middle and high school Botball teams in late February. Each team had about eight weeks to design and build one or two autonomous robots that would move items like “fuels” (colored pom poms), “water” (blue sponge balls), and “wind turbines” (pinwheels on pencils) to particular places on a large game board. Each properly placed item would score points for the team. Teams were also required to document their goals, strategies, and progress during the two-month competition period.
